Like most other
rocketeers, I re-discovered the hobby after a long absence. I built and
flew rockets when I was younger (12-early twenties), mostly the Estes
and Centuri stuff, plus a scratch-build here and there. For whatever reason,
I stopped flying and never really thought I would be interested in getting
back into it. Then in November 1998, I attended my first high-power launch,
the Turkey Shoot at Delamar Dry Lake near Las Vegas. It was the first
time I had ever seen any of the "bigger" stuff, and I though,
"Wow, this stuff is cool, I gotta get back into this!" I became
a "Born-Again Rocketeer," or BAR for short. My first post-BAR
kit was the Estes Python, a cool D-powered kit that, after a bit of research,
I modified to fly on AeroTech "E"-class composite motors. Very
soon after that, I had amassed a small collection of about 20 rockets,
including my first larger-model rocket, the AeroTech Initiator. This was
an excellent choice for my first large kit, because it introduced building
techniques that would lend themselves to constructing even larger kits.
Pretty soon I was buying reloadable motors and building bigger kits, eventually
earning my Tripoli Level 1 certification on March 21, 1999 using a Vaughn
Bros. Javelin on an H128.
Within this website you will
mostly find reports detailing my experiences with rocketry since my re-introduction
to the hobby, as well as photos that I have taken at numerous launches
(including some photos of other peoples' rockets). Browse around and enjoy
your visit...
